Design materials have been one of the main subjects in Domus Academy, deeply analyzed trough the years in research studies by DARC and by the Domus Academy students in several design seminars.
Italian Design has always paid attention to materials choice and development. This attitude, in turn, forested a better understanding of how to manage and apply materials in the Design process.
To brief this seminar we took Ettore Sottsass as one of our primary references inside Italian Design. In particular we have been looking at his work for Abet Laminati. His objective then was not only to develop a shape, but to convey the emotions the objects evoke through the finishing and the materials applied on them.

References come from Bruno Munari’s work; from the work of Gaetano Pesce and his search for beauty in his plastic world. Finally we drew inspiration also from the iconic lamp ‘Constanza’.
