Tuesday February 2nd has been a much anticipated day. The Interaction Design and the Design Department finally launched the first workshop of the 2010 academic year. Domus Academy’s students seemed to have been waiting for that moment since the day they entered the school gates. The Classroom, where the students gathered to attend to the official launch of their first project, was silent yet tension and expectations were palpable as the topic of the workshop was disclosed and the project leaders introduced to their expectant audience.

The workshop subject, was at first introduced and discussed by the department directors Claudio Moderini and Dante Donegani, who illustrated the aim and the objectives that the students should make the effort to attain. The industrial partner of this workshop, one of Italy’s most renown brand, contributed to explaining the general framework of the project shedding light on their expectations about the possible directions of the works.

In the end, the appointed project leaders: Stefano Cardini (Interaction Design), Niko Koronis, Giovanni Levanti, Dante Donegani & Giovanni Lauda, one after the other explained their own personal take on the subject, offering different standpoints from which observing a theme that is potentially universal. From such a broad theme, however, should originate a wide varieties of possible interpretations which all the themes involved in the project are expected to develop in the coming five weeks.

The results of the workshop will be presented on Friday March 5th at Domus Academy.
Already one full month has passed. Students joined Domus Academy no longer than four weeks ago and now they are ready to begin showing their abilities and their skills, addressing the challenges that are soon to come with the start of the first design workshop.

During the beginning of the Course students have been able to participate to a variedly composed assortment of lectures. Topics ranged from design tradition, to arts and expressivity; from trends and emerging social phenomena, to strategy, innovation and technology. The lectures provided the students, all coming from different parts of the world, and often with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, with a common set of shared knowledge, indispensable to for successful teamwork.

During the first weeks of the Course the classes were held by design icons such as Andrea Branzi and Ezio Manzini, researchers like Francesco Morace and his Future Concept Lab, strategist like Ampelio Bucci. Several more guest lecturers visited Domus Academy, all of them bringing their insight and their personal valuable contribution to the comprehension of the evolving design system.

Tuesday January 12th, Domus Academy opened the 2010 edition of 4 of its Master Courses. The Masters in Interaction Design, Design, Fashion Design and Accessories Design all welcomed the students of the January intake. Students coming from all 5 Continents joined Domus Academy for beginning an year of study, of cultural enrichment and, not last, of great professional enhancement.

As it is in the school’s tradition, all incoming students have been instantly immersed in the world of creativity and design. The beginning of this, hopefully, great learning adventure in Design was marked by an open round table with contributes by Fabio Novembre, Enrico Astori (Driade) and Rita Airaghi (GFF Foundation).

Then the Courses began with the official welcome lecture from the Department Directors: Barbara Trebitsch, Claudio Moderini, and Dante Donegani.

The institution, now in its 27th year of history, has been the training terrain where designers of all specialties have come to experience, appreciate and learn the best practices of Italian Design. The 2010 Classes are, from now on, called to be part of this prestigious tradition.
