The literary sense of the word ECCENTRIC is OFF CENTRE, that is, which does not have the same center; we say an orbit is eccentric when not perfectly circular. In the symbolic and colloquial language, eccentric means UNSUAL BEHAVIOUR, as opposed to what is “normal”, and as a consequence, the life of an eccentric person will be UNIQUE, peculiar, and therefore PARTIAL, made of personal needs, actions and aesthetics. It is precisely the relationship and ambiguity between these two interpretations that will lead to new and interesting design perspectives: on the one hand, it is a VIRTUOUS ECCENTRICITY that follows an unconventional direction, focused on themes of social relevance such as SUSTAINABILITY, CODES OF ETHICS, etc. (as an alternative to the main orbit based on market and business parameters); on the other, ECCENTRICITY in the sense of an extravagant, bizarre, and extremely individual behavior, an implicit PROVOCATION.

From a design point of view the theme can be tackled both by emphasizing on the PROGRAMME - choosing to work on a design ambit that does not fall within the mainstream orbit, by identifying the characteristics associated to different ways of living, places, cultures, or special contingents - both by operating on the meaning of an AESTHETIC that will not depend on the taste of the others, but which will follow its own peculiar direction, and which will depend on personal and/or subjective motivations.

ECCENTRIC DESIGN means TO TUNE-IN with the emerging dynamics of the CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY which recently experienced the strong emphasis that was put on aspects concerning socialization and shared experiences, and in which today the multitude of points of view and FRAGMENTED experiences led to new paradigms.

ECCENTRIC DESIGN as an original interpretation of relevant themes on a global scale, as a means for PEOPLE (not consumers or users) to regain an ordinary world with acts of pure EXISTENCE.

ECCENTRIC DESIGN means to reflect upon the design aspects that do not fall within the mainstream visions; which do not show refusal but INDIFFERENCE to conventions; which represent a UNIQUE and VITAL point of view; which provide space and quality, behaviors and subjective values to personal needs, as well as fads, phobia, fears and idiosyncrasies.
