Idea | Problem setting | Context
We found many opportunities in Navigilo to look better and make it become a place where people can participate with our proposals of project to make Naviglio an interesting place.
According to our research, Navigilo has some kind of problem, for example, the Navigilo is divided. This interrupts the connection between people in both sides along Naviglio. In addition is not being used for a particular purpose. This makes you think that Naviglio is just an abandoned space.
To make Naviglio a lively place Meet & Blend and Damda has been proposed two different ideas of participative design.

What is it?
Meet & Blend and Damda are two different proposals that deal with aspects of happiness and communication between people throughout participative design. All of them have been developed to be installed along the Naviglio, the heart of Milan.

Meet & Blend is like a game that works with coloured lights under the level of the water controlled by the pedestrians. On this, people sited on both sides of the river interact between them not knowing each other.
With Meet & Blend and a simple gesture light changes its colour.

Damda floats luminous on the water making us thinking on the meaning of a candle by recreating its rituality. Hope is a charity floating system for a particular moment in time.

How it works?
Meet & Blend can be controlled by a very simple gesture. Rotating a lever the colour of a light placed underwater changes and interacts with another one placed in front of the first one. When two persons are interacting a multiple change of colours is appreciated on the surface of the river.
There is beam light under the Navigilo that makes the light blend with the one placed on the other side by moving the levers.

Damda When buying your personal floating system it’s possible to choose the message you want to attach on. Once attached the user closes the device switching it on. Then Damda is ready to be floated. After some minutes the device finds their place to float and a system on the bottom of the element detaches, goes down and attaches on the bottom of the river. During night time, the message will be shown to people.

Value & Potential
Meet & Blend The most important benefit is that people can change the ‘mood’ of the environment by connecting people in both sides of Naviglio changing the colour of the light and blending it with another light giving some magic to the ‘atmosphere’.

Damda creates a ritual when using it and gives a chance to the users to be generous with the community by giving another ‘flavour’ to the Naviglio.
