Historically, the kitchen was always the centre of the family home, the place where people would meet, chat, and discuss quite naturally. With time, this situation has evolved with the kitchen loosing its rank and the creation, in the house, of separate, cosy environments reserved for meetings, work and more general discussions. More recently however, the kitchen has made a strong come back to the forefront, notably as an example, with the so called “open plan” architecture, reaffirming in this way, the central role it naturally plays in a family life.
This situation poses new challenges to the kitchens design that has to meet the requirements imposed by social, political and economic factors. To correlate the traditional kitchen to the new requirements of contemporary society should be the prime factor in manufacturing today’s kitchens. To play with new materials, shapes and technologies does not seem to bring the answer any more. There is a need to reinvent the kitchen, and create new interactions.
Stand by, was born with the intention to create a new kitchen typology, more akin to the new requirements of society. A more personalized kitchen, that invites to a different use. Cooking in company, will remain of prime importance to foster human relations. To create new relations with the kitchen through innovative ways will motivate to cook more and better, improving the quality of life of individuals and will help to be more humane. The versatility of Stand by will fill many market niches in different areas such as Offices, Homes, Hotels and even Airports.
The new era of hybridization of space emerges with Stand by in a challenging manner.
