March the 10th, the Master in Interaction Design Launches V-Tail: the second workshop of the academic year for the 2009 Class. V-Tail follows the Crossing Design Seminar Light Exhibition Design and is structured as an Investigation whose main research domain focuses on Visual Interfaces.
Project Leaders Chiara Diana (DARC art director) and Elena Pacenti (DARC director) have structured the main domain of work as an exploration of the possible ways to enhance the retail experience through digital augmentation of the shopping environment. The students will be called to put to the test both their anaysis and their visualization skills in the attempt to meet the requirements set for the Workshop.
5 different kind of retail spaces are taken into account (fashion, food, book+music, furniture and consumer electronics), for each one of them, 5 phases of the retail experience have been isolated (attraction, orientation, comparison, testing, care). Students working in groups (each group addressing one specific phase), in the first week of activity are called to generate multiple ideas for developing interactive systems for each one of the retail spaces. Then only one of the solutions outlined will be fully developed, highlighting its potential for developing an engaging and entertaining application capable of enriching the shopping experience.
In the tradition of the Interaction Design Master’s Investigations, the main project activity is intertwined with a set of skill based activities, aimed at refining specific strategic abilities, key for the success of the final project. During the 3 tasks programmed the Interaction Design class will be exposed to industry best practices through a series of targeted lectures. Then these new abilities will be immediately tested in a series of experimentations and through on-field exercises.
